A day in the life of Akhil Jalan

Senior Akhil Jalan is an accomplished member of the Speech and Debate team. He specializes in Lincoln-Douglas debate, which requires an adept handling of topics in ethics, philosophy and logic. Jalan has participated in and won national tournaments in locations ranging from Emory University to Stanford University, and spends up to 40 hours a week preparing for upcoming tournaments. Jalan believes that the intense, time-consuming nature of Lincoln-Douglas debate has taught him the value of time management and academic effort; he plans to continue his efforts through college. When he’s not researching cases, he performs with the Los Angeles Metropolitan Youth Orchestra as a trombonist.
