According to the American Pet Products Association(APPA), Americans own 70-80 million dogs. Approximately 37 to 47 percent of all households in the United States have a dog.

Student Store accountant Pattie Ness adopted five greyhounds. “They are my kids,” Ness said.

When Ness adopted her dogs, her dogs were nervous about a new environment. A couple of months after she bred her dogs, Ness saw her dogs blossom from puppies.

Freshman Sara Sarmiento bought her dog at a local pet shop. “He is one of my best friends, always with me protecting.”

Sarmiento said that it is hard to take him on a walk everyday because she is busy with her assignments but she always feels happy after having good time with her dog.

“It is really cool to have pets,” Said Sarmiento. “I want to recommend that people tame their own pets. It’s great thing. There is some work involved but you can have payback with love, joy and happiness,” Ness said.
