On April 3, sophomore Emma Adams began selling homemade earrings for her online Instagram shop, @earfruit. Adams began crafting with clay when she discovered polymer clay in a bin that she had not used from her aunt years ago. Once she realized that she could make earrings from them, she started to buy more clay from the online shopping platform Amazon, which is where she currently purchases all of her supplies. Initially, she only intended to craft earrings for her close friends, but her friends encouraged her to sell to a wider audience. She realized that her statement earrings could stand out and give people confidence in their outfits, since each earring is one-of-a-kind.

“I find that handmade earrings have so much more character and uniqueness to them since each design is styled by me,” Adams said.

Adams creates and sells a variety of earrings. Some of her earring designs include strawberry, mushroom, duck, egg, sunflower and pepper patterns. Her sales are conducted through themed collection releases on her Instagram, where she posts an image of the earrings she is selling with its price. Standard earrings are $8, and custom earrings range from $10 to $15. She hand-delivers to customers in the South Bay with free shipping, and charges $4 in shipping for her clients outside of the South Bay by Venmo and Paypal. With the money she makes from selling earrings, Adams hopes that she will eventually be able to purchase her own car and spread her shop to other platforms such as Etsy.

“My goal for this company is to make everyone who buys my earrings feel confident and unique in them,” Adams said.
